The excellent results of synergy between industry and academic research
POMEZIA – The synergy between the worlds of academic research and industry can produce positive effects for the development of the country, as regards skills as well as economic development. One example of this is the scientific and technological collaboration recently established between the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology of the Sapienza University and the company ITC Farma. These two important entities have decided to join forces and to participate in the call for proposals of the Lazio region Life 2020, in order to enhance and increase their knowledge and skills, so as to reach their strategic goals for growth and innovation, as well as for competitive positioning on the international market. “The objectives that we have achieved – explains Professor Silvio Lavagna – have exceeded our expectations. This important result has been attained also thanks to the collaboration of Professor Bruno Botta, the director of the Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology Department of the Sapienza University, together with Professor Alberto Boffi and Professor Daniela Secci. It provides further confirmation of the fact that we are going in the right direction”. “The new technologies with which we are equipped - points out Dr. Guglielmo Frontini, the plant director of ITC Farma – have raised our capacity to a qualitative and innovative level that is present only in the largest pharmaceutical companies. Furthermore the creation of the research department will allow ITC to optimize existing processes, and to speed up the activities of process and method transfer that are very important for companies, like ours, the core business of which is represented by contract manufacturing and the development of new pharmaceutical products.”
